DGFT
Maximizing Incentives, Empowering Global Trade
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) is an attached office of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, headed by the Director General of Foreign Trade.
From its inception until the 1991 economic liberalization, the organization focused primarily on the regulation and promotion of foreign trade through strict controls.
Keeping in line with globalization and the objective of increasing exports, DGFT has since transitioned into the role of a “facilitator,” shifting from prohibition to the active promotion of imports and exports.
